Law and Politics Turkeys
Every year, Law & Politics magazine publishes a rundown of the goofiest happenings in … welll … law and politics. Here are 3 spot illustrations I did for this year’s issue.

Free Range Film Festival

This weekend is the Free Range Film Fest out in the big barn in Wrenshall. I’ve got my own movie in it, and you can see several other things I contributed animation, music and even voice “talent” to. Oh, and I did the FRFF Logo.
You should check it out, it’s always a good time.

Best sketch approval e-mail ever.
I’m working on a set of illustrations for a magazine.
Here’s the e-mail I got from the editor approving the sketches. This is all he said.

Out in the wild – a logo sighting

I did this logo a few years ago for a building products company. They just moved into their new downtown retail space and got some nifty signs made with the logo.
Homegrown Music Video Festival
This weekend was the Homegrown Music Video Festival. Friday night I drew “Rise Up!” by the Black-Eyed Snakes out of the big tophat filled with songs. Then we had the weekend to make a music video. So this is what I did. If you ain’t from around these parts, you probably won’t get some of the local references. But hopefully you can enjoy it anyway.
The big premiere was Monday. I couldn’t make it, but I heard it was fabulous fun. 13 entries all together. Dang good for a first-time event.
Look for the other contributions at perfectduluthday.com

And Friday, I’ll be playing with Tangier 57 at the Red Star, and we’ll have an apron fashion show with Rachel Hart of Apron Elegance. Swanky sassy fun.

8 commentsZazzle Today’s Best Award
So I just signed up for a Zazzle account, played around and loaded up a few things, and right away, I got a “Today’s Best Award” for a design. Cool. Honestly, I don’t know if that’s a big deal or not. The design is a reworking of a Tangier 57 poster I made a couple years ago.
There are several other designs in the Zazzle store, and I’m going to continue uploading things as I develop them or dig up old doodles from my files.
Guinea pigs for Minnpost.com

Hey, have you heard about the economy sucking?
When I was in college in Lincoln, NE, there was a place where students and others who may need some extra cash could go to serve as medical guinea pigs. Taking various medications and then getting blood and other tests to monitor various effects. Sometimes this could be pretty lucrative “work” especially from a college student’s perspective. I never did any of the tests, but had plenty of friends who spent lots of time there, so there was always some mystique surrounding the place.
Seems that these labs are seeing a new type of “client” with the crappy economy. Real Estate agents are one of the fastest growing groups spending time in the labs to make some extra cash.
Thrills, spills … and chills.
Chester Bowl Wipeouts from Brian Barber on Vimeo.
I’m still trying to dry out my kid’s boots 3 days after this, but I think it was worth it. Sunday March 15 was the last day of skiing at Chester Bowl in Duluth. We’re pretty dang lucky to have a ski hill right in our neighborhood. I think I heard this is the cheapest lift ticket in the country – $5 a day.
Can’t beat that…
