What I did this weekend
I made a little cartoon. For the 48 Hour Film Project in Minneapolis. The actual movie was produced by my pal Mike, and the Free Range Film Players, and shot out in Wrenshall, MN. Mike asked me to animate a little title sequence. So I did this, and threw together some music too. This is just my sequence, which transitions to an opening scene of the movie. There’s just a placeholder photo at the end now, I’ll post the full movie soon.
For those not familiar with the 48 Hour Film Project, it works like this: each team has to write, shoot, edit and deliver a movie within 48 hours. On Friday night, each team draws a genre, and is told a prop, line of dialogue, and character that has to appear in the movie. The movie has to be given to the judges on Sunday night. Minneapolis had over 80 teams this year, and all the movies are being screened this week at the super-cool Riverview Theater in Minneapolis. It’s a really good time if you can make it to the screenings (and vote for our movie). But it sells out, so buy tickets early.
UPDATE!!!!!!: The Jig is Up made it to the finals this week!!! Showings of the finalists and voting are Thursday 6/26 at the Riverview in Minneapolis.
UPDATED AGAIN!!!: The movie was nominated for best graphic design and Annie Dugan took the award for best actress. Oh, and one of the actors is now in the running for the Minnesota House of Representatives. Pretty good for a silly little movie, huh? View the completed movie here:

“Featured Banner Artist”

mnartists.org was kind enough to mention my work and include links in their access+ENGAGE e-journal. I’m the “featured banner artist” for this issue. They’re also linking to the silly cartoon I did for the Free Range Film Festival intermission. (Coming up in July!!!)
I always forget about the resources available on mnartists.org. I gotta check it out more often.
ProFile Stock

This is pretty exciting. ProFile Stock is launching, and I’m listed in there with a bunch of heavy-hitters like Brad Holland, CF Payne, Dugald Stermer, Elwood Smith, Gordon Studer and many more. People whose work I’ve always really admired, and some whose work got me interested in doing illustration.
The site could be a great thing for artists and buyers. You can search the site, negotiate prices, download the art, and contact the artists directly. Most stock sites stand firmly in the way of any kind of contact like that so they can remain in the middle and get their cut. It looks like this site will be different, run and managed by each of the illustrators and providing a higher quality than you’ll find on many of the other stock sites. Give it a try. People are constantly loading new work (including me) so if you don’t find what you’re looking for the first time around, bookmark it and keep it on your list to check frequently.
Botox Brides
Another one for MinnPost.com. This was fun. Big puffy lips are fun to draw.
